Holiday Island Fire Department

Well, we made history. The worst weather in 30 years, the coldest temperatures since recording began and snow everywhere! Even though the conditions were dreadful, I have a big CONGRATULATION to all of you because you were prepared. It is apparent to me that you stocked your shelves, got your medications, and filled your propane tanks and whatever else it took to hunker down during the last two storms. Many of you stayed off the roads which allowed the road crews to make our roads passable for emergency vehicles. I am very proud of our citizens – and yes you hear a “but” coming – BUT, it might not be over yet, so keep your eye on the weather. Together we can all “weather” the weather!!

We are trying very hard to keep the new web-site up to date with road conditions, events, and any other pertinent information. Go to hisid.info and hit the Fire Department tab.

As a result of the foul weather, we had to postpone the Souper Sunday Soup lunch. We haven’t yet set a new date, so stay tuned for that information to come out in the papers.

Your Fire Department continues to stand ready to support you. Just recently, Bob Clave was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief. At the same time Billy Emmons and Tom Winters were promoted to Captain. With these new titles comes the additional responsibility of ensuring our team receives the best training available.  Bob, Billy and Tom are up to the challenge – when you see them next – shake their hands and congratulate them for their continued service to the Department.

With the promise of spring also comes the promise of spring thaw and rains. Throughout our area we have quite a few low water crossings. Remember the adage – TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN! It doesn’t take much water to wash your vehicle off of a low water crossing, so be careful with the spring thaw and spring rains.

As always, I want to thank the community for putting their trust in the Holiday Island Fire Department.

Jack Deaton, Fire Chief
